Movies : Twilight

I downloaded a DVD rip of Twilight from our local P2P network and watched it during supper. Hey, I had to relax after several hours of freelance work! The movie was... slightly more entertaining than the book. Edward and Bella's interaction felt awkward and some scenes creeped me out majorly, but overall, it was... amusing? And I liked Alice. She was pretty and rather charming. Heh, I have a feeling that most people like Alice even if they aren't exactly crazy about Twilight in general. Oh, and I... loved the woods around Forks. I'd like to take a walk at such a place (...not with Edward though; his sparkly skin makes me think of various icky diseases and... not sex, sorry). We have woods here where I live, too, but they're different, and what's worse, they're getting cut down... =.=; but that's a whole another story, I'll rant about it later. Hmm... now I want to work on my original vampire stories again. I don't read that much vampire fiction (I only really like Vampire Knight and Dracula, as well as various movie adaptations of Dracula, preferably parodies), but I do love vampires as mythological creatures, and my own stories... well, I'm not planning to write them down anytime soon, but they're just fun to think about. By the way, my vampires are not undead humans; they're a different species, so you can't get turned into a vampire in my universe.

I agree with you! The movie was (infinitesimally) better than the novel. For me, other than the actors that played Alice and Jasper (who were quite endearing!), it was the fact that the movie was not from Bella's point of view as per the novel; there was a lot less Edward!obsessing, which was a nice break. Though the kiss did throw me off quite a bit. I was, er, not expecting that much UST for the first kiss. But I suppose they had to spice things up to make it appeal to their target teenage-audience. ;;

Oh yes, you're right, Bella did seem somewhat less obsessed. Well - somewhat. Their relationship still made me wince. ;;; See, some parts were almost... cute, in an awkward way, but then Edward came to her bedroom at night and that squicked the HELL out of me - again. ;;; There are things that I simply don't find cute at all, on the contrary, they scare me. x.x;;; I guess I'm just too serious about privacy and such stuff - heck, I'm almost paranoid about it. If you want to spend a night in my room, ASK ME FIRST AND WE'LL SEE. ;;; In that sense, I honestly can't relate to Bella at all. |D;;; Sheesh, it's a shame that Twilight is a romance and not a psychological thriller about a creepy obsessed guy. It feels like... wasted material. ;-; And... yeah, the kiss was weird. %D;;;

I refuse to acknowledge a certain movie that spawned from an awful novel, so I'm just gonna say that if you ever write down this vampire story of yours, I'd totally be up for reading it. =D

I probably won't write it anytime soon, sorry... but I can tell you one thing, my vampires DO NOT and WILL NEVER sparkle. |D;;;

Dracula the novel should receive more love than it does these days--I originally read it when I was 12, and I adored it to pieces; couldn't put it down. I've reread it more than once since then. ♥

And you're completely right--vampire stories tend to get repetitive (or just end up crap even if they're not), which is why I tend to be attracted to the kinds with a change to the usual vampire-lore shtick.

Trinity Blood was quite popular for awhile--the vampires were genetically altered humans banished away to a nearby planet, in which they grew and thrived for hundreds of years; yet their relationships with humans were continually hostile and explosive. It sounds like a usual sci-fi fare, I'm sure, but it happened to be a gorgeous set of light novels/an anime/manga, and the plot twists throughout were enjoyable.

That, and hot guys.

I also loved Blood+ because it wasn't centered around vampires jumping humans for their blood, and the two main characters were badasses (Saya and Haji, a pairing I still quietly ship); why blood-sucking and -altering creatures existed were explained throughout the series, adding plot twists along the way, and though it was a long series, it was pretty epic for me to watch. |"D

And I happened not to mention That Book because... it ruined what the word "twilight" meant forever. D"8

Oh, right, I actually do know Trinity Blood, and I'll probably watch Blood+ up to the end someday. Well-written vampire fiction is something I can't miss. xD;;; Plus, yes, I remember Saya as a great protagonist. She's a very interesting heroine. *_*
